Ecological global citizenship education: a reframing

A reconceptualization of education for sustainability and global citizenship (GCE) is proposed, considering evidence from the United Nations decade sustainable development (ESD) research with policymakers adult educators in Wales. In this reframing, foregrounded, model underpinned by an ecological ethos, where webs interconnections are highlighted. The informed critical holistic education, it includes a focus on relational learning affective domain, emotions recognised valued alongside rational cognitive. These elements supported ethic care, which introduced as starting point making what can appear abstract concepts or remote issues, immediate relevant to learners’ lived experience. synthesis various theoretical perspectives embodies inclusive ‘ecological education’, learners engage difficult emotive topics. Dialogue proposed method at centre pedagogy that humanistic, facilitates supports often-uncomfortable we honestly critically examine ourselves our world within community.
